Matty is a man living in Queens, New York.

As a kid, Matty was close friends with Maxine.^[W 10] They grew up together. Over the years, they marked both of their heights together on a wall.^[W 3]

Eventually, the two drifted apart.^[W 3] By the time they were in high school, Matty was pretending he had never known Maxine.^[W 10]

In 2002, at the end of the spring semester, Matty and two of his friends cornered Maxine. He used a cigarette lighter to heat up the grille of his Volvo, and pressed Maxine against it as the other two held her down, leaving 3 circular burn marks on her chest.^[W 3]
