  • Bangor: A cathedral city in County Gwynedd, Wales. Banger’s family is from there and it’s where his nickname comes from.
  • Queens: The borough of New York City where Max's family and Avery are from.
  • Reading: A city in England. Max’s cousin Alice lives there.
  • San Diego: The second-largest city in California. Located on the coast near the Mexican border, about two hours' drive from Los Angeles.
  • Vista Primavera: A fictional suburb of San Diego where the majority of the story is set.
  • Vista Primavera High School (VPH): A high school in Vista Primavera which Max and Taylor attend.

Characters

A

  • Aladino: Italian tailor working in Vista Primavera.
  • Alice: Max's English cousin; looks like she could be his sister. Probably lesbian.
  • Anna: Tall cheerleader; enthusiastic about throwing short girls.
  • Ms Arroyo: Coach at VPH and Max's chemistry teacher.
  • Avery: Max's best friend from New York. Lesbian.

  • Banger: Garrett's chill Welsh friend.
  • Bekki: One of Sherri’s clique of mean girl bullies in New York.
  • Brian: Student at VPH, hanger-on to the football team.
  • Brooke: A transgender girl whose on-line transition timeline photos Max finds.

  • Casey: Deceased former student of VPH. Rumoured to have been killed due to ‘effing with the team’.
  • Cassie: One of Sherri’s clique of mean girl bullies in New York.
  • Chelsea: Cheerleader. Plays the flute.
  • Claire: One of Avery’s friends being bullied by Sherri and her clique.
  • Clay: Max's older brother.
  • Clinton: A student at VPH. Assaulted Max at Justin's party.
  • Corey: A player on another VPH sports team.

  • Coach Dale: Coach for the cheer squad.
  • Danny: Football player. Dating Eddie.
  • Darrell: A player on another VPH sports team. Max dislikes him the least.
  • Dominique: Cheerleader; Kennedy's best friend.

  • Eddie: Cheerleader. Gay, pretending to date Willa.
  • Erika: One of Sherri’s clique of mean girl bullies in New York.

  • Jim: Banger’s real name.

  • Justin: Football player. Rich.

  • Lauren: VPH student. Member of the photography club. Attended Justin’s party.
  • Luca: Max's dad.
  • Lynn: Taylor's mom.

  • Marina: Tailor’s assistant to Aladino Sabbatini. Extremely blonde.
  • Matty: Max's former childhood friend who assaulted him in New York.
  • Max: Gymnast from New York, recently moved to Vista Primavera.
  • Mr McLaurin: Teacher in New York. Has an unhealthy attitude towards Sherri and her clique.
  • Meredith (Merry): Clumsy cheerleader.

  • Nick: Football player. Dating Kennedy.

  • Shane: Football player. Calls Max a lesbian.
  • Shannon: Cheerleader in Kennedy's clique. Tall and black.
  • Shawna: A VPH student who works as one of the staff at Patty’s Burgers.
  • Sherri: Mean girl/cheerleader at Max's old school; Max and Avery hate her.
  • Sherry: Cheerleader in Kennedy's clique.
  • Simone: Willa’s older sister.
  • Sylvie: Cheer captain when Kennedy first joins the cheer squad. Since graduated.
