  • Taylor marks Max's height on her doorframe.[W 2]
  • Max and Taylor smoke weed and talk about her scar.[W 3]
  • Max uses Taylor's computer to get on AIM and talk to Avery.[W 3]

Monday the 4th

  • Max and Taylor practice and hang out all day.[W 3]

Tuesday the 5th

  • Taylor chats with Willa, sets up party.[W 3]
  • Gordo sees height mark; Taylor placates him by saying that Max is a girl named "Maxine".[W 3]
  • Taylor fills Max in about the lie she told Gordo.[W 4]

Wednesday the 6th

  • Taylor meets Clay in passing.[W 4]
  • Party at Taylor's![W 4]
  • Max meets Willa and Eddie and they come out to her.[W 4]
  • Gordo shows up. Willa hurriedly dresses Max as Maxine so he can meet her.[W 4] Max largely imitates Avery to sell him on the idea.[W 5]
  • Max winds down and spends the rest of the night dressed as a girl.[W 5]

Thursday the 7th

  • Willa and Taylor realize that Gordo's coach will discover their deception and out Max. Taylor gets zero-day exploits from Garrett and hacks VPH to alter their student records. In the process, Max meets Banger.[W 5]
  • Max changes back into boy clothes and goes home.[W 6]

HRT start.

  • Max waxes and Taylor improvises oatmeal-filled breast forms.[W 6]
  • Willa gives Max some of her birth control pills, telling her to take three per week to suppress masculinization. Max takes her first dose.[W 6]
  • Max meets Lynn; Taylor convinces her that her memory of the Giordanos having two sons is mistaken.[W 7]
  • Max, Taylor, and Willa go to the mall. They buy some basic clothes and makeup, as well as a dress for Justin's party. Max realizes she's been fainting because she hasn't been eating enough and breaks down; Taylor comforts her and realizes how precarious her mental health is. On the way out, Max notices that a Nintendo in a vintage store catches Taylor's eye.[W 7]
  • Max orders gaffs from a drag supply shop.[W 7]
  • Max takes a second dose two days early.[W 7]
  • Garrett gets Taylor to tell him what's going on with Max.[W 8]

  • Max has been taking one or two birth control pills per day.[W 9]
  • Taylor hangs out while they wait for Max's gaffs to arrive; Gina nearly intercepts them.[W 9]
  • Willa brings Max's breast forms.[W 9]
  • Justin's party. Max meets more the cheer squad, the football team, and other students. She and Taylor dance together and kiss, passing it off as them showing off for the boys. Clinton forces himself on Max. The girls comfort her; Garrett and Banger show up to bring her home.[W 9]
  • Max sleeps over at Taylor's.[W 9]

Saturday the 16th

  • Max goes home; Gina confronts him and they argue.[W 10]
  • Max sets up a meeting with Banger.[W 10]
  • Max naps poorly because of nightmares.[W 10]

Sunday the 17th

  • Max and Clay visit the vintage store. Max buys the Nintendo, then sneaks off to do some shopping as a girl; she gets a new outfit, some makeup, and a webcam.[W 10]
  • Taylor has a disasterous date with Gordo and breaks up with him.[W 10]
  • Max sneaks off to visit Banger. Banger reveals that he knows about Maxwell, but he's chill about it. She asks him to get her more birth control pills. He gives her a ride home and meets Clay.[W 10]
  • Taylor visits Max late at night and they fall asleep together in Max's room.[W 10]

Thursday the 21st

  • Gina interrogates Taylor.[W 11]
  • Max visits a salon.[W 11]
  • Garrett makes Maxine, Taylor, and Willa fake IDs so they can visit a gay bar.[W 11]
  • Willa meets Natalia.[W 11]
  • Taylor realizes she likes girls more than boys.[W 11]
  • Max runs into Clay tending bar, outing both of them to each other.[W 11]
  • Max puts Clay off until the morning and they go home; Willa got Natalia's number.[W 12]
  • Taylor starts thinking about a future with Max.[W 12]

Friday the 22nd

  • Max, with Taylor's support and Garrett and Banger keeping the peace, has a long conversation with Clay in which she convinces him that being Maxine is self-expression that makes her life worth living. In the process, she reveals to all of them that she's taking higher doses of birth control than planned. Clay leaves shellshocked but convinced that he can't out her. (Willa somehow sleeps through this drama.)[W 12]
  • Later, Max comes home and finds Clay has been researching. He tells her that her hormone regimen is equivalent to a transsexual woman's and shows her transition timelines to demonstrate their permanent effects, then asks if Max is sure that she wants this. Max says she does and he calls her "Maxine".[W 12]
  • Max and Taylor exchange romantically-charged texts.[W 13]
  • Avery is sad; Max sends a webcam photo to cheer her up.[W 13]
  • Avery chats with Taylor, saying that she's worried that being a male cheerleader will put a target on Max's back. Taylor reassures her, but uses the wrong pronoun for Max accidentally.[W 13]

Sunday the 24th

  • While Gina and Luca are visiting churches, Clay asks to see Max as Maxine again to convince himself that she passes well enough to stay safe. She wears the dress from Justin's party again, then she and Taylor seal the deal by wearing matching cheer uniforms so that Clay can see that Max is as convincing as Taylor.[W 13]
  • Max and Clay watch a movie together, sharing physical affection like they haven't in years, as they plan logistics and figure out how Clay can help.[W 13]
  • Taylor starts researching trans women to help Max, but is still half-convinced that the idea that Max will stay a girl is just wishful thinking on her part.[W 13]

Monday the 25th

  • Max goes to her first official cheer practice.[W 13]
  • She meets several more cheerleaders, including Kennedy's clique, and has a good time with the team, but her mood crashes when she has to separate and shower in a different locker room.[W 14]
  • Anna, Eddie, Jewel, Max, Taylor, and Willa grab a meal at Patty's Burgers. Max is still struggling with dysphoria; Taylor explains this to Anna and Jewel as fragility after the assault in New York. Justin has a conversation with Max and shows some interest in her.[W 14]
  • Max admits to Clay that she simply wants to be a normal girl. Clay tells her that he loves her as his sister, and Max mentally declares Maxwell dead.[W 14]

Tuesday the 26th

2 weeks HRT.

  • Taylor comes over and discovers that Clay is treating Max as his sister when their parents are out. She takes her to Willa's to practice and get her cheer uniforms; on the way, Max asks her to treat her as a girl full-time, saying that Maxwell "should have died in New York" and that she doesn't ever want to be him again.[W 14]
  • At Willa's, Taylor discovers that Max has started using tape to tuck. She tries and fails to be normal about it. Once they've finished, she semi-accidentally pervs on Max in the shower. [W 14]
  • The three of them go shopping at the mall. Shane starts catcalling them as "lesbos", but Justin intervenes. Taylor tries to warn an oblivious Max that he's flirting with her.[W 14]
  • Insecure that Max might be about to discoer an interest in guys, Taylor kisses Max outside their homes.[W 14] She promptly runs away.[W 15]
  • Max tells Clay that she will probably go to college as Maxine; after processing that, he starts telling her to plan how to come out to their parents. Max says she wants to be established at school first so she can argue that she's already doing it successfully; meanwhile, Clay reluctantly agrees to forge Luca's signature on the cheer squad permission slip.[W 15]
  • Max convinces herself that the kiss was just "casual intimacy between girls"; Taylor decides to leave it at that.[W 15]

Wednesday the 27th

Thursday the 28th

  • During a phone call and then a last-minute sleepover, Taylor tells Willa that Max doesn't want to go back to being Maxwell. She shows her transition timelines and talks her thorugh her knee-jerk skepticism that trans girls are real girls; she also realizes that she finds Willa attractive. In the process, Taylor tells Willa that she's discovered she likes girls.[W 15]
  • Late at night, Avery sends, then deletes, a series of messages to Max saying that she knows there's something happening she hasn't told her about.[W 15]

Friday the 29th

  • Willa warns Max to be careful not to be seen being gay with Taylor, accidentally revealing that she's had a crush on her for years. Further conversations cement in Willa's mind that Max is a girl and will stay that way.[W 15]
  • Max gets a scarily ambiguous text from Luca demanding she come home.[W 15] He drags her off to get fitted for a church suit without giving her an opportunity to change out of clothes hastily borrowed from Taylor.[W 16]
  • The tailor, Aladino, turns out to be a friendly gay man who's at least passingly familiar with trans people. He offers sympathy and encouragement, promising to alter the suit to help her play the "dutiful son" role when she needs to.[W 16]
  • Taylor and Willa show up to (unnecessarily) "rescue" Max from this situation, but Justin arrives to pick up his sister Rosie from guitar lessons. Max hastily changes clothes to talk to him as Maxine; he convinces her to come over for a jam sesion with Rosie, who looks up to her as the cool punk cheerleader.[W 16]

Sunday the 31st

September

Tuesday the 2nd

3 weeks HRT.

  • First day of school at Vista Primavera High School.[W 16] Max is nervous, but makes it through the day, albeit with a lot of help from her Discman. At lunch time, Justin flirts with her, Max tries to ignore triggering conversation about her old school, and Taylor tries to offer comfort without it looking gay, including a questionably platonic kiss on the cheek.[W 17]
  • After school, Shane and some friends heckle her as a lesbian again; Corey, Darrell, and Rudy from the basketball team offer some comforting comments, but Clay arrives before the conversation can go anywhere. He convinces her to change into Maxwell well before their parents come home so she has time to get into character. [W 17]
  • Willa tells Taylor off for being obsessive about Max and reckless about PDA, but confirms that yes, Max definitely likes her.[W 17]
  • Max takes a set of transition progress photos for later reference. She later realizes that Taylor definitely likes her and is reduced to girly squealing.[W 17]

Wednesday the 3rd

  • Before tryouts, Max and Taylor have a quiet conversation where they admit their feelings and agree that "Willa's right", though Taylor's not exactly clear on what Max thinks that means.[W 17]
  • Maxine meets Ms Arroyo, who will be her chemistry teacher.[W 17]

Thursday the 4th

  • It's Avery's first day of school, though Max doesn't hear anything from her right away.[W 17]

Friday the 5th

  • Shane hassles Max again, but this time he starts harassing her to go on a date with him to prove she's straight. She arranges for Banger to pretend to be her boyfriend and pick her up at school, and kisses him in front of a group of students, including Taylor.[W 17]
  • The squad votes to begin training to compete in regionals.[W 17]
  • Avery needs to talk urgently, so Max calls her from Banger's house. Rebecca has given in to homophobic harassment and broken up with her; Cassie stabbed her with a compass on her first day back and then left another compass in her locker the next day. Max tells her to drop out. Later, Banger listens to Max's girl troubles and points out that staying closeted at school doesn't mean they can't be secret girlfriends.[W 17]
  • Taylor starts spiraling on the idea that Max might like boys again; Willa decides to spend the night with her. They get drunk and Willa drunkenly kisses Taylor, saying she "had to know".[W 17]
  • Max arrives intending to talk to Taylor, but finds them in that state.[W 17] She puts the girls to bed, getting a good-night kiss from Taylor, and eventually falls asleep with them.[W 18]
