Chapter 29: The People We Once Were is the third chapter of the third book of the series, Enemies of Dorley Hall, and twenty-ninth chapter overall.

The chapter contains five scenes with flashbacks over the previous month or so, and fourteen scenes which all take place on Wednesday, 18 December 2019.

Plot

On November 13, Trevor Darling, transferring a sedated man, goes to sleep while a replacement drives the van

Later the same day, Trevor, abducted by the replacement, wakes up in a cell

On December 16, Val and Frankie wake from an alcoholic stupor

On December 5, Trevor is tormented by Grandmother prior to surgery

In the present (December 18), waking with Steph after a restless night, Aaron is getting tense about being called Aaron

Aaron thinks about his relationship with Steph and conversations with Harmony

Two days before, Trevor is confined and shackled in the Dog Run

Christine, Indira, and Paige are on a road trip to Brighton

Pippa and Steph discuss Aaron and Pippa wonders if he’d benefit seeing another graduate

Val and Frankie try to slap some sense into Declan, and share knowledge that there’s another prisoner in the Run

Aaron meets with Yasmin

Christine, Paige, and Indira visit Brighton beach

Yasmin and Aaron keep talking

Christine visits her mother

Jake gives Trevor a shave

Christine’s mum makes tea

Val and Frankie hatch plans and Val goes to meet Trevor

Steph mentions the Christmas party and Aaron resolves to ask Maria for permission to attend

Grandmother torments Trevor
