First appearance | Chapter 3 |
Indira is a senior sponsor at Dorley Hall. At the start of the story, she was Christine's sponsor, but has since been reassigned to Faye; she also stands in as Bethany's sponsor while Maria is recovering from an injury. She has reconnected with her pre-Dorley family with Aunt Bea's permission and is dating her childhood friend Hasan.
Indira is 176 cm (5'9") tall[LL] and of Indian descent. She is disarmingly even-tempered and polite; Christine says she sponsors by "weaponising niceness"[ch. 19] and Bethany compares her to "a pedantic primary school teacher".[ch. 19] She has a South London accent [ch. 37]. She considers herself a trans woman[ch. 9] and her mother is an advocate for trans people. She likes to dress in breezy, light-coloured clothing[ch. 11].
Pre-transition
Even as a boy, Indira was exclusively attracted to men. Her struggles with her sexuality contributed to the misbehavior that eventually made her a candidate for the programme.[LL]

In the programme
When Indira was in the programme, they still had to go through traditional, rather archaic mannerism training, drilling random things like how to get out of a chair while wearing a short skirt[ch. 11].
