Chapter 15: Simply Irresistible is the fifteenth and final chapter of the first book of the series.
The title is a reference to a Robert Palmer song which Beatrice hears when she escapes Grandmother's Dorley to go to a party. The song is also referenced when meeting Elle at the end of the chapter.
The chapter consists of eight scenes, with flashbacks to 1988 and 2004 alternating with scenes taking place on Saturday, 9 November 2019.
Plot
- In July 1988, the girl who is not yet calling herself Beatrice goes exploring in the town and encounters a girl and Robert Palmer
- Bea prepares to expel Declan
- In August 2004, Bea confronts Grandmother
- Bea hits the gin, Maria a shot of vodka
- Later the same day in 2004, Grandmother reacts badly to Bea taking control of Dorley and dropping a folder of kompromat
- Further discussion of Declan being washed out
- Again in 2004, Elle Lambert arrives to consolidate Bea’s position
- Bea and Elle meet, discuss events, and then go back to their hotel room for old time’s sake
