Chapter 37: Snuff is the first chapter of the fourth book of the series, and thirty-seventh chapter overall.

The title is perhaps referencing that Dorothy almost ends up filming a snuff movie in the first scene.

The chapter contains three flashback scenes to 1962 and 1984, and the remaining nineteen scenes take place on Sunday, 5 January 2020.

Plot

In May 1962, Dorothy Marsden and friends film her castrating a man named Wallace Mount in the basement of an old hospital. He kills her friend Constance, and is then killed in turn by Dorothy.

Back in 2020, Abby is to be brought back into the fold. Wedding preparations are discussed, and a crash is heard from the kitchen

Edy considers the scene in the kitchen

Maria considers that the bitch (Frankie) is back (at Dorley), and further reflections cause a swoon

Frankie watches proceedings, and Monica learns Declan was at Stenordale

In June 1962, Crispin Smyth-Farrow turns up to blackmail Dorothy

Once again in 2020, Tabitha sees to helping Trevor

Bea observes the commotion for awhile, then absconds

Christine articulates the Get Abs Plan

Tabby hands Trevor to the tender care of Dr Fatima

Valérie hears a further explanation from Stephanie, and talks with Frankie

Diana awakes at the B&B and strikes a pose

Béatrice and Valérie discuss Diana and Val’s predicament and start repairing the Round Tuit

Steph, Bethany, Melissa, and Amy are drafted to look after the basement with Jane

Christina, Paige, and Pippa retrieve Abby from the Grant family’s home

Locked in the pool room, Frankie is menaced by Maria carrying a taser and a serrated kitchen knife

The amateur sponsors take their places

Abby, Christina, Paige, and Pippa return to an understaffed Dorley

Valérie critiques Bea’s wardrobe

Steph is worried about Ollie

In 1984, Crispin Smyth-Farrow plans to do terrible things to the Barbiers

In 2020, Valérie dresses herself from Bea’s racier wardrobe and is helped to settle in by Christine, when they discover Ollie has tried to kill himself
