New Personal History
A New Personal History (abbreviated NPH) is a constructed identity assigned to Dorley girls during their third year in the programme. This identity enables them to live in the outside world without fear of their previous, pre-Dorley lives coming to light.
A key part of the New Personal History is whether the graduate will present themselves as cisgender or transgender. The decision is left to the individual, but can only be made once.[ch. 8] Additionally, the choice is somewhat limited by the individual's biomedical transition; those who have had bottom surgery may choose to present as cis or trans, but those who haven't may only present as trans.[ch. 20] Most Dorley girls have a cisgender NPH; Tabby was the first girl to get a transgender one.[ch. 22]
