Chapter 36: In From the Cold is the tenth and final chapter of the third book of the series, Enemies of Dorley Hall, and thirty-sixth chapter overall.

The title is an idiom referring to someone who is an outsider being readmitted into society.

The chapter contains 20 scenes which take place on the weekend of 4–5 January 2020.

Plot

Dorothy considers the carnage and plots revenge

Declan dissociates while Dorothy threatens him with a shotgun

Dorothy decides to enact Plan B and prepares to burn Stenordale

The Peckinville rangers notice the blaze engulfing the manor

Trevor, Valérie, and Frankie look for a new vehicle

Bethany also has a moment with Rachel

An auxiliary worker with the emergency services, Noor, finds Diana

Pippa brings Rachel up from the basement, where Maria has news

Noor and Judy encourage Diana to flee before the police arrive

Trevor, Valérie, and Frankie find clothes to purloin and change, still on the lookout for a vehicle

Rachel and Pippa have a long discussion inbetween choosing pyjamas

A vehicle is procured (finally)

Henrietta Smyth-Farrow has an incriminating phonecall

Trevor finds the A1 and then a map is procured with a twenty pound note

Dorothy plots her next moves

Diana hitches with a couple driving their caravan to Cherston

Pippa lets Rachel know Melissa, Shahida, Amy, and Beatrice are waiting for her

Steph has an electrolysis session with Tanya, while Beth gets lasered

In Cherston, Diana is pressed into service at Chiamaka’s B&B for free board
